The first time Selena was successful was in the year 1986, when she was awarded prizes for Female Vocalist of The Year and Performer Of the Year at the Tejano music awards. Selena Y Los Dinos continued to win prizes of the Tejano music awards which led to their increasing popularity and recognition. Many Spanish programming including El Show De Johnny Canales siempre en Domingo (Saturday night Gigante) and El Show De Johnny Canales always on Sunday were featured.
